A Prominent Knox County Chiropractor Helps Back And Disc Pain Naturally

By James John

The back is not composed of one solid bone. It has a series of small bones called vertebrae that are stacked vertically from the neck on down. Between them are small spongy discs that act to absorb shock as the individual moves his body in all directions. Without these intervertebral discs the bones would rub together causing pain. A slipped or herniated disc can be cared for at Knox County Chiropractic.

In a herniation there is a crack in the outer shell of the disc. The inner portion bulges out between two of the spinal vertebrae. The pressure caused by the subluxation, or misalignment, of the vertebrae forces this protrusion.

Falling or being in a car accident are two things that can cause a hernia. However, being overweight or having poor posture can also be responsible. Even twisting the body awkwardly can cause one.

It is the pressure against a spinal nerve root located in the spinal cord that brings on the sometimes excruciating pain. When the adjustments move the vertebrae back into the correct position, that pressure is relieved. As a result, the pain is also relieved.

The chiropractor will perform a complete exam before any care is recommended. Your condition is evaluated using strength and range of motion tests, palpation and an x-ray. You will be asked to describe the pain, how intense it is and what you think might have caused the subluxation.

Some anomalies should not be cared for with chiropractic methods. Those individuals will be sent to the correct health care professional. If you are an appropriate candidate, your care may include a series of manual adjustments.

Along with a series of spinal adjustments you may receive an exercise program designed for you and nutritional advice. If applicable, posture correction will be taught. The goal of pain reduction is going to happen over time.
