Dry Eye Syndrome

At Christensen Eye Care, we see many patients with dry eye syndrome; there is regular dry eye and then there is also contact lens related dry eye. We have several different treatments available that we can use for both of those areas.

For regular dry eye, there is anything from different step treatments; we usually start it out with artificial tears and then take it from there. If necessary, we can go move to prescription medications. Your individual needs will be assessed when you come in for an eye exam.

If you have contact lens related dry eye, there are many different options for that too. We usually begin by giving you different solution to clean the lens better, so that it stays moist longer in the eye.

So what causes dry eyes? The causes of dry eye syndrome are varied, with many different factors, anything from hormone changes throughout life to side effects of prescriptions that you're taking Health control medication may also bring on dry eyes, as well as antidepressants. Those are some reasons a person may experience dry eyes. Even different climates or allergies can play a role in the type of dry eyes that we're seeing. Existing autoimmune condition may also contribute to the occurrence of dry eyes.

We look at all of the possible factors contributing to your dry eyes and then we assess what direction to go in. With many different causes, the treatment of your dry eyes may take more than one appointment with our optometrist.
