Surviving With Cerebral Tension

By Clotilde Lars

Managing a traumatic brain injury is difficult. I know, because I suffered one. Finding a way that I could work past my new limitations was extraordinarily difficult. That's why I decided to try a new approach and try book with Becky. I'd heard a lot about their revolutionary diagnostic techniques, and needed to see what they had to offer.

Basically, this clinic is special because of how they are going to examine your brain. They are going to take a look at how your living brain functions. That means the brain in motion, so that they can see just how everything works. The SPECT scan affords them this opportunity.

What makes the SPECT scan by a patient in Bellevue so unique is that it takes a picture of your brain in motion. Through it's unique techniques, the brain is able to be completely cross sectioned. Then a special computer can put together that cross section.

This sort of scan is pretty revolutionary. Mainly because you look at the brain while it's working. The pictures constantly update, and doctors can look at what your brain is doing while you're active in the machine.

The whole logic behind the brain scan is a better diagnosis. Even for traumatic brain injuries like mine, a lot of doctors try to diagnose based on symptoms. But that's not always enough. That doesn't always paint the full picture of what's happening in your head.

What I needed to realize at first, was that the brain scan helped, but was never going to be an instant cure. Brain treatment is always a long road. It's just made shorter by the better diagnosis that helps doctors pinpoint the problem.

I still had to meet regularly with a psychiatrist to see real results. But there really wasn't whole lot of musical chairs with new drugs. Instead, it was more of a focus on what works for my unique problem. Thanks to the scan the doctor knew what was right straight away.

In the end, my doctors have helped me tremendously. Because of their accurate diagnosis, I've been focusing on treatment that actually helps. It's the same treatment I could have gotten anywhere. But not the same care I could have got in the beginning. That's what's made the big difference.
