Health For All Using California Health Insurance

By Joe Andrews

Insurance to cover health care is on everyone's mind. There is nothing worse than being sick and not having the money or insurance to go to the doctor. California Health Insurance laws have tried to cover these contingencies. Legislators have, over the years, enacted legislation to assist the people who could not afford to pay health insurance premiums. As a result there is a wide range of programs available for those in need.

Because of this health problem, California now has laws in place that make it mandatory for everyone to have some kind of coverage. All companies with twenty or more employees were required to provide them with insurance. With the large amount of unemployment and other financial problems, this became a problem as many people could not afford to purchase insurance. That is why California now has such a vast amount of health provisions for the uninsured.

In California, there is a mandatory law that everyone must have health insurance. Since many of the residents are elderly, unemployed or disabled this has made it necessary to initiate programs to take care of these people. With the downside of the economy, this has become a very large expense on the state's budget.

The largest program in the state is Medi-Cal, which operates under the Department of Health Care Services. This program is designed to provide health care for low-income and people with disabilities. In addition, under Medi-Cal there are numerous programs for children services, drug abuse, mental illness and many others.

The DHCS program provides health care for low-income people and families who prove eligibility. In two thousand nine a number services were cut for those twenty-one years and older due to the state's financial problems. Many specialized care services are still in place.

Insurance companies in the state are strictly regulated. For example, all must allow a person, who dropped their insurance, to renew it if their premiums were paid on time. They can only refuse insurance for a pre-condition for a very short time and then they must issue insurance to that person.

There is no double that California health insurance, as provided by the state, is one of the broadest plans in the nation. The state has constantly been to the fore regarding the health of its residents. A few years ago a plan was introduced that would have taken over the health care of every state resident, very similar to the new Federal Health Care Bill. The state has nobly tried to be sure that everyone has access to proper health assistance when they were unable to pay for it.
