While Shopping For A Less Deadly Weapon, Think About A Taser

By Richi C Fanner

My son asked me, a police officer, if it was necessary to shoot to kill. He knew that my smile was not the answer.

As a law enforcer, I was not to part with my service gun when on duty. Moreover, it has never been shot. I was thinking, what if my family's safety will be put on the line? How would I protect them?

Naturally, I would not want to use a firearm as protection but a less lethal weapon would be enough to keep my family safe. With a Taser, I was within legal bounds to use it aside from its effectiveness as a defense gadget.

A Taser can surely bring down an attacker or any person who would pose a threat to my family's safety. There is no danger of killing one with it since it is a less lethal weapon than one with a bullet. When triggered, it would shoot a high voltage electric current up to 15 feet. When an assailant is within reach, it can double as a stun gun.

This weapon, when used in situations for self-defense and recorded on police files, will be replaced by a new device. Replacement will require presenting a police report regarding the incident.

Common among Tasers as a less lethal weapon is the Taser C2. Using this model involves a cartridge with compressed nitrogen, which when used is still replaceable. Its incapacitation effectiveness is faster compared to a handgun.

Just by the look of the Taser M26C, one could guess that it a high-caliber weapon. It is designed to allow the shooter to blast many times. And with its laser light, missing the aim would be remote.

The Taser X26C has features of the M26C with an accompanying training DVD and training certificate, and provided with a metallic practice target. I simply hope that throughout my career, this less lethal weapon will be the only defense weapon I will ever employ.
