16 Weeks Pregnancy Belly - What to Expect and Enjoy

The sixteenth week marks the point where you begin experiencing visible and accelerated growth regarding your pregnancy. 16 weeks pregnant is something most women are really happy about. It is big enough to show your pregnancy but not too big yet to make you all awkward and clumsy. Losing your waist might be an unsettling experience but it is quickly made up by the wonderful feeling you have with your 16 weeks pregnant belly.

This phase of time is also the time when you really begin to enjoy your pregnancy as nausea is dissipating and the famous so-called glowing skin begins to show itself. 16 weeks pregnant belly also marks the time where you may want to start building your maternity wardrobe. You may not need the clothes yet but don't forget that this is where baby and belly growths are starting to sprint and your 16 weeks pregnant belly will definitely feel much more comfortable in maternity clothes. For your information, the size you want for your maternity clothes is the same as your non pregnant clothes. As an example, if you usually wear a size L, then your maternity clothes size should be L too.

Although your belly might not look big enough, at 16 weeks your baby has grown quite big that the movement is now significant and you may feel it. The first time your baby move is definitely a milestone for each mother to be. In some instances, it may be gas but cheer up, it may also be your infant trying to greet you. 16 week pregnant belly is big enough for the baby to feel the freedom that comes with such space, one that encourages the child to swim energetically.

When you proudly boast the 16 week pregnant belly keep in mind that it also spells the start of tests you need to undergo with regards to your pregnancy. One of the most important tests is the AFP test or the alpha-fetoprotein test. The exam measures the level of protein in your urine. A high level of protein in the urine may indicate problems, one of which is Down Syndrome. Other issues linked to high protein level in the urine are central nervous system and spinal cord problems.

High level of protein and other negative signs may not always mean bad news. Your doctor will usually recommend an amniocentesis to confirm if there are serious problem to take care of. The risks for miscarriage and complication are quite high regarding this procedure so you may want to discuss your options thoroughly with your doctor.
