The National Institute of Health, more usually referred to as NIH, is a federal government agency operating under the United States Department of Health and Human Services that's greatly accountable for supporting the country's biomedical and health-related research studies.

The grants and programs of the NIH are all geared towards the realization of its major agency mission which is to "seek elemental knowledge about the nature and behaviour of living systems and the application of that information to enhance health, lengthen life, and reduce the burdens of illness and disability."

In accordance with this mission, the National Institute of Health has collaborated with the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) in an attempt to establish the Child Health Research Career Development Award Program.

The Child Health Research Career Development Award Program is specifically constituted to invite applications for institutional research career development (K12) programs that seek to support a national programme for mentored investigators who have recently completed a postgraduate clinical training in a subspecialty area of Pediatrics and at the same time, are very much interested in building an independent research career.

In addition, the NIH and NICHD also intend to provide worthy clinical investigators with the opportunity to procure state of the art training in an academic research setting to stimulate pediatric research over a number of other disciplines.

With this, the Child Health Research Career Development Award Program also tries to encourage the simulation and performance of research studies that target pediatrics and its subspecialties, thus trying to acquire results that will benefit the health of children in general.

The NIH also invites diverse proposals from individuals coming from racial and ethnic sectors which are underrepresented in biomedical and behavioral research, individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds, individuals with disabilities, and women.

So as to support the activities that are covered under the program in focus, the NIH and NICHD are ready to administer funds in the amount of $2,592,000.

The institutions and affiliations who will be assumed eligible to submit an application under this programme are the following:

a) Higher Education Institutions such as Public and Private Institutions of Higher Education

b) Non-profit Organizations

c) For-profit Setups Like Small Businesses

d) State Governments, County Governments, City or Township Governments, Special District Governments, and Indian/Native American Tribal Governments

e) Independent School Districts, Public Housing Authorities/Indian Housing Authorities, Native American Tribal Organizations, and Faith-based or Community-based Setups.
