If you would like to improve your immune system, there are many natural options. There are two types of herbs for your immune system, deep tonics and tonics that are more superficial.

Deep herbal tonics work long term to improve immunity. They are not helpful for fast illnesses such as cold or flu. They are designed to rejuvenate your immune system.

Strengthening your immune system is similar to building an army. You take these herbs long term as tonic herbs and your immune system just keeps improving. If you get a cold or flu, it will not last as long. Or, you might not get sick at all. Your immune system protects you better if you take tonic herbs.

One of the most popular herbs for the immune system, astragalus is very effective to boost energy. It is best to take it long term. As an herbal tonic, it is so safe it is given to children in China. It improves digestion and immunity in children. It is easy to add the raw herb to soups and give it to children as food therapy. They will not notice the bland taste.

Astragalus is also useful to get rid of excess fluids. If your ankles or feet are swollen, astragalus can help you get rid of this fluid. It is also used to strengthen the energy of the heart. That will also help you get rid of excess fluid.

When you buy astragalus, consider buying an extract. Normally herbs are just ground up and put into capsules. This helps, but it is not as strong as taking an extract. The herbs are either boiled or soaked in alcohol to pull the active constituents out. If you take raw herbs, your body often cannot digest them. It is similar to going to your garden, pulling up a root, drying it and then eating it ground up. Your body just cannot process it.

Cordyceps is also a good choice for immunity. It strengthens your kidneys and lungs and can be used as a longevity tonic. You will normally feel a difference after about a week of taking these tonic herbs. If it takes longer than that, you were very weak and you should just keep taking them until you feel better.

Chinese herbs such as cordyceps and astragalus are used to improve energy levels and improve immunity. If you take them for a while, you will be less likely to get sick.
