Medical Esthetics and Medical Esthetics Training Are Becoming Commonplace.

By Roxy Albright

The last time you visited your local mall or shopping center, did you wonder what the new medical spa offering medical esthetics training and services was? Even if you were bold enough to venture inside for a peek, you might not have been brave enough to actually ask someone what they did there or what services they offered. It might have seemed a little confusing to see advertisements for everything for botox to laser certification required procedure. What does that all mean and what are esthetics anyway?

To those who don't have any experience with it, or even knowledge of it, medical esthetics training and other medical spa services might be very confusing. Though these types of services have become fairly common, come even refer to these services as "lunchtime procedures," too many of these services are baffling to people who have never even heard of a certified esthetician. So, let's shed some light on this subject. What are esthetics all about? Who benefits most from these services and what are those benefits? Which procedures are most commonly requested?

Medical esthetics training and medical esthetics involve the practice of high-technology skin care and represent the perfect union of healthcare and beauty services. Most services performed within the branch of esthetics use advanced technologies to provide medically based procedures which cause significant cosmetic change or enhancement. These procedures do not involve the use of surgery, as only qualified medical personnel are licensed to perform such, especially if it involves any type of anesthesia. The services of a licensed esthetician often involve the use of lasers, with the proper training and laser certification, and other energy based devices. The scope for an esthetician's practice can also be broadened to include limited injection, such as botox, in some states.

The baby-boomer generation presents the largest segment of the population to receive services from medical esthetics training and medical esthetics. The demand for anti-aging services has increased dramatically as this population ages. Drastic changes to appearance can often be accomplished without the need for surgery and this has been a perfect match for this generation. Estheticians provide services ranging from hair removal to cellulite reduction. Wrinkle reduction is common, as is tattoo removal. Spider veins can easily and quite painlessly be eliminated and birthmarks can also be removed through aesthetic services. In many spas across the county, skin is tightened and acne and acne scars are eliminated without the use of medication on a daily basis.

The most commonly requested procedure involves the use of Botox injections. These injections utilize an injection of a mild neurotoxin under the skin which inhibits signals to the brain affecting different facial muscles or other body parts. Because these muscles are then paralyzed, the formation of wrinkles and fine lines is eliminated and similar injections to the underarms and palms can also curb such conditions as excessive sweating. It is obvious that high technology skin care is gaining momentum as more people learn about and turn to aesthetic services to gain back confidence about the way they appear and present to others.

Services such as medical esthetics training and laser certification are becoming increasingly popular and, chances are, they are offered at a spa or beauty school near you.
