Contact Lens Examination

By Yolanda Reyes

We all know that most people prefer contact lenses when they need vision correction. They are better than eyeglasses in many ways. Today, more than a million people in the USA use contact lenses. Although contact lenses are great to wear if you need vision corrections, there are some things you should know.

You should make sure to check you contact lenses for tears or damages before you put them in your eyes. Tears can occur in contact lenses, and putting on contacts that have tears would not be good for your eyes at all. You should also make sure that there are no debris or smudges on the lenses. Don't use torn contacts; toss them out and get new ones.

It doesn't matter what type of contact lenses you use, checking them is a must. Your handling can cause scratches sometimes. Using a scratched contact lens can damage your eyes. You could get an infection or even scratch you cornea. The easiest way to prevent this is to examine your contacts before you wear them.

Before you put your contacts in your eyes, simply let them rest on your index finger and look them over. Once you're through, put it them on you palm to inspect the other side. You should always do this one contact lens at a time, before you plan on wearing them. If you wear contacts, then make inspection a part of your daily routine.

Along with inspecting your contact lenses you'll need to keep them clean. You can do this by dropping some solution on your palm and gently rubbing your contact around on it. This will help to remove any dirt or debris that you find on the contact, and keep them clean. You might get an eye infection if you don't clean the lenses regularly.

Contact lenses do require some care. Whether you wear soft or hard contacts, you'll need to clean them on a regular basis and examine them for defects, dirt, or tears. Examination is the only way to find out if your contacts have tears or damages. Through examination, you'll know if it's safe to put on your contact lenses, thus ensuring your eyes' health.
