When swelling and inflammation occurs in the veins in the anus and rectum, you have hemorrhoids. In the U.S., approximately 75 percent of the population experiences hemorrhoids at some time during their lives. Normally they can be relieved with easy home remedies, but if they continually recur, surgery may be necessary.

How can you identify that you actually have hemorrhoids? There are several signs that can give you a hint. However if you even believe you have a hemorrhoid, you still have to visit a doctor, so they can let you know definitely. Here are some warning signs to be aware of.

1. Pain - Pain is a hemorrhoids main symptom. It may be hemorrhoids if you feel pain when having a bowel movement, or feel pain for a long time after.

2) Rectal Itching - Rectal itching can be a sign that you have a hemorrhoid. The cause of this is the combination of moisture and stool on the rectum.

3) Pressure - A sign of hemorrhoids can be pressure in the rectum. The pressure is felt because of the swollen hemorrhoid.

4. Bleeding - A hemorrhoid can cause rectal bleeding. This bleeding can happen as you are moving your bowels. When you pass stools, the pressure can result in bleeding. Since the anus is swollen and irritated, this can result in a slight injury as the stool struggles to come through.

5) Bulging - At times, there might be bulging felt on the anus with external hemorrhoids. This comes from stool pressing down on the anus.

6) Anal Lumps - You might develop a lump in your anal region. This is caused by a hemorrhoid that has a blood clot inside. They may have to be surgically removed.

7) Unfinished Bowel Movements - If you usually have partial bowel movements, you might have hemorrhoids. In other words, you may have a small bowel movement and still feel the urge to defecate, but you can't.

There are only a few symptoms that indicate you have hemorrhoids. So be mindful if you have any of them. You can be sure that there is a problem if you have rectal or anal pain. That does not necessarily mean that the problem is hemorrhoids. There are various other things that can be the reason for the rectum hurting. If you begin having pain, the first thing that should be done is to see your doctor.

If you see blood coming out of your rectum, be worried. There are various issues that can cause bleeding. The reason for this could be something as minor as a fissure. This is a crack in the anal canal lining. It might be rectal polyps, or actually cancer of the rectum. A doctor will be able to diagnose the problem.

If you are diagnosed with hemorrhoids, there are various simple treatments that can relieve the symptoms. But be certain that you look after them. However, be certain you handle them with care.
