Starting Your Own Medical Clinic

By Casper Thomas

What comes after finishing medicine, completing residency, passing the medical board exam and having your doctor's license? Every physician would love to practice his medical profession in his very own clinic. First, we would have to find a place that is suitable for a clinic. After we've located one, the next thing we do is set up the office, fill it with the most recent advanced technology in the field of medicine.

A clinic equipped with the latest medical equipments will surely provide your patients with precise results and your best recommendations.

In our town where I grew up, a friend of our family started his own medical practice several years back when I was still young. He was single then. I could reminisce the times when all the available ladies in town went crazy over him! He was a prized possession of the town, ruggedly handsome in his looks of blue eyes and curly blond hair. From time to time, Dr. G would crash in our house in the guest room, to avoid the nuisances in town and for him to get rest in between his duty hours and very dynamic social activities. Also, he just loved my mother's cooking. With his consent, while he was in deep slumber, I played with his stethoscope. He always brought it in his bag. I grew fond of it and used it on my doll, my cat, and for a short while, I became the 'doctor' in the house.Little did I know at that time, I was using a device that was invented in 1816 by Dr. Rene Theophile Hyacinthe Laennec. In the olden days, when the stethoscope didn't exist yet, medicine men and women just positioned their ears on the chest of their patients to hear their heartbeats or on the back to hear the sound of their breathing. Many times, he made professional and social calls at home at the same time. That was how doctors did in the old days. On occasions, merely a 'hot toddy' was given to us as a remedy when we were little. The hot tea of brandy, and I think he even put a tiny bit of vapor rub salve on the top, (do not do this at home), it tasted terrible, but we certainly slept well and always felt better the next morning. I am still clueless up to now of how the drink cured us, was it the brandy, the vapor rub, the herb tea, or the effects of its blend. And, too, I think his gift in healing, a kind and compassionate heart contributed to our getting well.

Way back then, it was different. You can only see the doctors in their clinics. On the other hand, lest there are emergencies, they can still quickly respond to it because they always carry their medical bags. Developments in scientific studies and technology have equipped medical professionals, giving their patients the best possible treatment there is. The basic scientific "tools of the trade" used by doctors is also applicable in nursing homes, hospitals, mobile medical units, and even in your house, an addition to your first aid kit if you want one.

Surely, as you stand in your empty examination room, you'll find yourself very excited to have all the up-to-date equipments and materials to complete your clinic for example stethoscopes, blood pressure monitors, instrument trays, exam lamps, and the well-known doctor's stool on wheels.
