The Five Areas of Health Where Physiotherapy Can Help

By Frank Giambagno

Is physiotherapy the solution for you?

There are many benefits that physiotherapy can bring yet many people aren't sure if it is the answer for them. Although surgery and prescription drugs are much more widely known as typical treatments from an accident, injury or illness, physiotherapy can treat a good range of conditions effectively, either as a complement to, or a substitute for, surgery and medication.

A trip to your nearby physiotherapy facility can help you ease pain, recover strength, and improve all neuromuscular or musculoskeletal dysfunctions.

If you have any of these following conditions, physiotherapy may be right for you:

1) Sports Related Injuries. Sports or exercise pain might be the result of training mishaps, incorrect warm up methods, injury from a fall or other accidents. They require a mixture of manual therapies, pain and swelling management, taping and custom exercising programmes

2) Chronic Illnesses. Osteoarthritis develops when the joint cartilage covering the ends of the bone wears away. Arthritis means inflammation of the joints. There is distinct discomfort and difficulty with flexibility with these conditions. Physiotherapy is an excellent solution to alleviate the pain, strengthen muscles and enhance mobility.

3) Balance or Mobility Problems. If you have experienced a head injury, brain condition, or trauma resulting from an accident, you may be having balance and mobility issues. Physiotherapy is a good solution to treat this condition.

4) Sprains and Muscle Injuries: These injuries can arise from slip and fall accidents, repetitive motion injuries, and other incidents causing a physical injury. This may include such injured areas as the arms, shoulder, knees, feet, ankles, hand and wrist problems such as carpal tunnel syndrome and tendinitis. Neck stiffness is also an area that may be treated with physio.

5) Back Pain. Back stiffness can arise from muscle strains, ligament strains, herniated discs, spinal stenosis, osteoporosis, Fibromyalgia and more.

So if you struggle with any of these conditions, consult your doctor about how physiotherapy might be the answer for you.
