How Do Exercises To Lose Belly Fat Work

By Eugene Yeng

Being a big concern to many, exercises to lose belly fat is a hot topic. There are all kinds of advice circulating. Weight gain sometimes centers in the abdominal area. It is also the hardest fat to take off, it seems. You can do something about it, though. Diet restrictions combined with certain exercises can work wonders.

This concern cannot be treated as a localized issue. Fat all over the body needs to be addressed in order to get rid of this abdominal fat. A combination of cardio and toning must be used. Neither type exercise by itself will work.

For any effort in attempting to lose excess fat in the abdominal area, consistency is the key. Doing an inconsistent effort to tone and do cardio will not work. Both types of exercise have to be done regularly in order to work. Cardio needs to be daily, and strengthening should be done three to four times weekly to be effective.

Though they appear to work, strengthening activities only firm the muscles, making you look better. Some calories will be burned in doing them, but not many. They only tone and strengthen the muscles; fat loss is due to calorie burning.

A big cause of fat accumulation around the stomach is eating refined carbohydrates. This leads to insulin resistance, which further adds abdominal fat. This becomes a vicious cycle, often culminating in full blown diabetes. The presence of abdominal fat is one of the primary indicators of a propensity toward diabetes.

Just doing spot, targeted activities without eliminating these refined carbs, and without a cardio routine, cannot do much toward eliminating the problem. All these work, but not any one by itself will be effective. Suggested exercises include both cardio and toning/strengthening exercises.

One good cardio exercise is walking. It does not put undue stress on joints or the body as a whole. It can be adjusted to the fitness level, and can be increased in time and intensity as fitness improves, which it will, with even just a short easy walk daily. Almost anyone can walk, and it can even be done indoors at malls or on treadmills, or simply walking in place during bad weather. Even when sick, a short easy walk can be done without much effort.

Another cardio that can be done if the body is up to it is jumping jacks. This is where you jump up, spreading the legs and clapping the hands over the head, then returning the legs to center and slapping thighs with the palms. If this is too much stress on joints, you can do a modified jumping jack where only one leg and one arm are used at a time, alternating sides.

Though these cardio activities are important, toning is also important to strengthen the muscles in the abdominal area. There are a huge number of activities touted as ridding you of belly fat. Though they alone do not work on just this fat, and though they do not really work on fat, but muscle, they are still helpful for both toning and making you look nicer. Combining them with cardio activities will be effective.

Some suggested activities are crunches, sit-ups and modified sit-ups, planks and leg lifts. Any exercise that contracts and then releases the ab muscles will tone the area. Though they will not attack fat in any one area, they will tone and make you look leaner.
