People can get sick all year round, but the winter months seems to be an particularly hard time of year for the immune system. There may be a reason that the winter months is dubbed "flu season." The colder climate, the harsher conditions-they all bring about a weakened immune system. It's tough to protect against a flu when you're struggling to stay warm. It's very difficult to keep the colds away when you're stuck inside a stuffy office or house all day and can't get any fresh air. Cold and flu germs appear to reproduce quicker in a house that keeps the windows closed all the time. Here are some things that can be done to improve your immune system.

Exercise routinely. Getting physical exercise frequently will make you sweat and that jacks up your endorphin levels. Regular physical exercise makes it possible to stay physically fit while sustaining your weight and it strengthens your immune system at the same time. Endorphins do more than improve your moods throughout the frigid and black winter months. They boost your immune system's energy which help it defend against infections and illnesses. There are actually experiments done that state people who exercise five out of seven days a week take half as much sick time as people who don't get that same level of exercise in the winter.

Get a therapeutic massage. There are wide ranging reasons to relax yourself and treat yourself to a "spa morning." Swedish massage therapy, specifically, has proven beneficial in fighting off infection. Massage helps to improve your body's circulation and will activate the cells that you need for keeping infections and flu germs at bay. Not only that but getting a forty five minute Swedish massage can help you relax. When you don't have a bunch of stress weighing you down, it is easier do to all sorts of things!

You may be tempted to lock yourself off from social contact for a few months. After all, the less social interaction you will have, the more unlikely you may be to come into contact with flu and cold germs right? While theoretically that's accurate. It is also correct that you'll require social interaction with all your buddies to keep your mood elevated. Nobody is sure why the immune system works better when you're in a good mood but it does. You need to have those afternoon lunches filled with fun and laughter to stay healthy. Don't avoid your friends. There are lots of things you can do to fight against whatever germs you pick up but there isn't anything that replicates the endorphins and chemicals that get released when you're having a fun time with friends.

Staying healthful in the wintertime doesn't need to be challenging. In fact, a number of the elements that you might be tempted to avoid will be the very things that help you stay healthy. Obviously, before you get all gung ho and try something new, you should talk to your doctor. Your doctor might have some surprising advice for helping you fight off the flu during "flu season."
