Keep Your Weight Loss From Hitting a Plateau by Tricking Your Metabolism

By James Steele

If you're like a lot of people out there, you might have tried a few different diets to different degrees of success. You may have lost some weight but you usually get to a certain point and then nothing you do can help you shed more. This plateau that the majority of people hit, is common with almost all diet plans. You cannot prevent the plateau problem if you don't learn to fool your metabolism.

It is likely you have already dealt with this plateau, which will normally end the diet plan with lots of discouragement. This is an odd thing that takes place to even the most successful dieters sometime around the third or fourth week of the diet they have selected. Up until that point weight is coming off and then it simply quits, and nothing works to keep the body slimming down. This is how your body does respond to all of the changes you've been forcing upon it. Your body goes into protection mode to avoid hunger, so it slows down your metabolic rate. What this does, then, is prevent your body from losing any more weight.

This is what causes people to believe they are not capable of losing the weight they want, and they give up trying. This is what causes most of the people to start eating again and they often gain back more weight than they lost to start with. The best way to stop this is to select a diet where your calories simply get shifted. This means that you eat a different number of calories each day which can help fool your metabolism. When this works, it prevents your body from turning the switch and getting into protective mode. This will keep your metabolism constant instead of slowing down and you'll get rid of even more weight. Once you reach this point, you have passed the plateau and your diet will keep working the way it was created to.

It is pretty simple to integrate this type of plan into your everyday routine. One of the most widely used caloric shifting techniques is the 14 day method. In this plan, you adhere to your diet for eleven days and then on the 12, 13 and 14th days you try to eat the things you truly would like to eat. You move your foods during the day, deceiving your metabolism, and for three day eat what you want, stopping the plateau. This is also quite handy in keeping you on course with the stricter dieting plans. You can keep repeating these 14 days until you truly feel content with the amount of weight you have lost.

The 2 day plan is yet another good plan in which you eat regularly for one day and then cut your calories by 20% all the way up to 35%. Continue repeating the method for as long as it takes you to attain a satisfactory level of weight loss. It is a program that you need to try, since it may be exactly what can get you past your plateau, to where you will lose all the weight you want.
