Breakfasts: The Most Important Meal Of The Day

By Adriana Noton

We have all heard the old saying that breakfasts are the most important meal of the day, and your Grandma was right. Breakfast, for most of us is the first meal of the day, and mornings are usually the most active time of the day. Whether you have eggs and bacon, or start your day with a healthy recipe, it is important to fuel your body so you have energy to face your day. If you fail to do so, you will find yourself not as alert as if you ate in the morning.

Many of us skip the first meal of the day for various reasons, either you do not have time or you think skipping breakfast will allow you to save some calories; whatever the reason, skipping it is a bad idea. There are many quick and healthy recipes you can use to start your day; a fruit smoothie made with yogurt is a healthy alternative, or an egg white omelet with some onions and peppers is tasty.

If you are in a rush, try zipping through the drive-thru of a fast food restaurant for a sausage and egg biscuit, and although this saves time, it is probably not the healthiest breakfast choice. Once in a while it does not hurt and it sure tastes good, but try not to get into that habit. There are easy recipes you can prepare the night before and grab on your way out the door.

There are those people that eat the same breakfast every day of the world; I guess they just know what their body needs to get through the morning. For example, some individuals eat oatmeal or yogurt and a glass of milk every day. It is all right to change, however some people just know what they have a taste for.

Some people love weekend breakfasts; gathering in the kitchen on the weekend mornings and prepare a huge breakfast for everyone. Maybe making waffles, bacon and cheese eggs or homemade biscuits, hash browns and country ham is what you like. This may not be the best breakfast for your health, but enjoying the time spent with each other is important too.

Sometimes it is fun to go out to breakfast with friends, but not a fast food breakfast. Try to have breakfast with my friends every couple of months, go to a nice restaurant and splurge; eggs benedicts or eggs Florentine and mimosas. You can get a chance to catch up, and enjoy a meal you do not have to cook.

Weekday mornings can be hectic, especially if you have children trying to get out the door to school on time. There are many easy recipes that will give them the energy they need to stay focused and do well in those morning classes. You can make them peanut butter toast or cheese toast, both are simple to make and they can eat them on the way to the bus stop.

Whatever you choose to eat for breakfast, just remember that it is important to choose healthy recipes. By skipping this meal, it will not help you lose weight; you will probably end up eating an unhealthy, calorie packed snack halfway through your morning when you could have had a delicious fruit smoothie. Breakfasts gives us the energy we need to face our day with a smile.
