How Lean and Muscular is Your Body?

By Greg White

Lean body mass is the estimation of how much you would weigh, without any body fat. This is the actual weight of your muscles, bones and organs. By calculating your lean body mass, you can keep a track on how much muscle you are building, or losing.

What is Lean Body Mass (LBM)?

Lean body mass is actually the complete opposite of fat; it is the weight of muscles, bones and the organs present in your body. This value's extremely critical for you to grasp; as most people start to lose muscle rather than fat when they start an extreme, crash diet in order to lose those extra pounds, this is the unhealthiest way for you to lose weight.

Why is it Important to Figure out LBM?

It is a fact that muscles weight heavier than fat. Somebody with a lean and muscular body will weigh way more than someone with a high fat percentage, of the same build. Figuring out your lean body mass is much more vital than knowing just your body weight, as it helps keep track on the amount of muscle tissue you are building or losing. When you are on a weight loss plan, you should not be losing muscle and gaining fat, rather you should be making your body more lean and muscular by eliminating body fat. The lean body mass calculator can help you identify if you're achieving your goal.

How Can LBM be Calculated?

The lean body mass calculator takes your weight, height and gender into consideration. Enter your weight in pounds and your height together with your sex and you'll get the most approximate reading of your lean body mass. One easy way to work out lean body mass is to work out your fat p.c. and subtract it from your total weight. The subcutaneous fat p.c. for a female is mostly higher than that of a male; this is the reason why the calculator also needs you to enter your gender along with your height. Lean body mass is essentially not your dream weight, it is simply the weight of all of the non fat parts of your body.
