Puffy Eyes Are Curable

Puffy eyes are temporary problems caused to our eyes due to retention of fluid. There are several reasons attributed to the onset of this disease, but the most common causes are building up of toxins and wastes in our body, lack of adequate sleep, excessive intake of salt, physical and emotional stress, generic reasons, allergy, sinus, dermatitis etc. Alcoholic beverage intake in excess and irritation from contact lenses can also result in this problem.

Delicate skin is present around and under the eyes and they are extremely sensitive to variations in the body. Puffiness can be noticed normally in the morning as soon as you wake up even though it can occur any time of the day. Surgical procedures are not needed for a cure. Prolonged chronic periods puffiness is called blepharitis. A doctor's advice should be taken promptly for effective treatment.

Immediate medical attention should be sought if the symptoms related to puffy eyes are grave. Swelling may also occur due to allergic reactions or insect bites. Eyelids cannot be caused if the puffiness is serious. It can also indicate problems regarding thyroid.

Prevention is the best defense against puffiness. Once it happens, getting rid of it can be annoying. It is important to drink copious amount of water and sleep at least 8 hours each night. Also remember to avoid stress. Contact lenses should be removed each night before sleep unless they are specially designed for night time use. Consumption of alcohol and sodium should be avoided as far as possible. Fragrance free, non-toxic skin moisturizers can prevent symptoms related to puffy eyes. Swelling of the eyelids, swelling around or at the corners of the eyes, dry or itchy eyes, puffiness of the eyelids etc are the common symptoms.

Several quick fixes like keeping cold cucumber over the affected eyes, applying refrigerated tea bags, keeping metal spoons that are put in the refrigerator for some on affected areas etc have found to be very beneficial in reducing the puffiness. These tricks help to drain the excess fluid from around the eyes and keep the area cool and comfortable. In addition, rinsing the face with clean, cold water can also reduce the problem of puffy eyes greatly.
