Understanding The Tongkat Ali

By Sam Lee Harrison

The Tongkat Ali extract is the most powerful of the many Tongkat Ali compositions. In its purest form, the herbal treatment will increase the testosterone levels in men and women. These findings were revealed in two ZRT Laboratory reports released in early 2005. The London Sports Journal furnished a report in 2003 showing that male users of the extract gained strength and muscle mass.

These were the first tests performed on humans although much previous testing had been performed using animals. When the results were released and demand outpaced supply, the Malaysian government took aggressive action to improve the manufacturing and distribution methods of the Tongkat Ali extract.

Understanding the Strength of the Tongkat Ali Extract

There has been some confusion about the strength of various Tongkat Ali products. The strength of the extract is listed on the contents on the product label. The most powerful form of the Tongkat Ali extract is 1:200. With this composition 200 grams of the root are used t create one gram of the extract.

Once you have located the most effective herbal ratio, determining the proper dosage will depend on the user's age, body size and weight. No two users are identical. The most effective pattern of use is called cycling.

In the cycling ingestion system, the user takes the extract for five successive days and then stops for two days. After two days, the cycle of use resumes. This cycle helps the user maintain a consistent level of testosterone, increased energy and consistently increased testosterone levels.

Tongkat Ali and the Eurycoma Longifolia Tree

The Tongkat Ali extract is taken from the roots of the Eurycoma Longifolia tree indigenous to Southeast Asian rain forests. At full maturity, the tree is 12 meters in height, has beautifully colored flowers set into the evergreen-like foliage and has a two-meter long vertical root. With the deforestation in Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam, the largest crops of mature Eurycoma Longifolia trees are now located in Indonesia and Malaysia.

The tree thrives in sandy soil, requires a fair degree of moisture and prefers a shady cover. The tree is slow to mature. Only fully mature trees, usually 20 - 30 years old, are used for the manufacture of Tongkat Ali.

To gather the roots requires strenuous digging. The labor intensive harvesting is quite time consuming in rugged conditions. Local doctors still sue the bark of the trees fro other alternative remedies.

The Manufacturing Process

In days of yore, Tongkat Ali was harvested before doctors boiled, dried and re-boiled the roots before straining the extract in a multi-step process. Today, modern technology has been employed to cleanse and streamline the procedure. Today, the roots are dried in huge stainless steel bins and ground into a coffee-like composition that is converted to powder or liquid form.

Tongkat Ali extract is available in capsule, tablet or liquid form. Products are carefully packaged and labeled for international shipping. The Malaysian government has committed $7 million annually for ongoing research and development to assure the many health benefits of the herb are realized.
