Thailand Spas Reviewed-Cheeva Spa

By Mark D. Meurs

I reviewed the Cheeva Spa in Chiang Mai, Thailand on July 10, 2010. Chiang Mai has more than forty spas and The Cheeva has been around for some time however as of six months ago they relocated to a new location. Their new building is larger and more stylish than the previous one. It has a pleasant garden with additional buildings for treatments.

The spa experience began nicely with a pleasant greeting from a cheerful receptionist. She assisted me with a choice from the menu. They offer a variety of massages and body treatments, I chose the one hour Hot Oil massage. They use jojoba for their massage oil. Jojoba happens to be my favorite for both receiving and giving massage. It is very close in chemical structure to our own sebum and this makes it a wonderful rejuvenator for hair and skin.

The treatment began with a pleasant foot bath in a milky solution with flower petals, this was followed with a brief salt foot scrub. I was taken through the garden to an adjacent building with two massage tables and a very large bath tub. Virtually everything in the place is new.

The massage therapist working with me was named Daeng. She has been doing massage for quite some time, the last six years here with Cheeva Spa. Daeng clearly knew how to give a good massage. Her tempo, pressure, and rhythm were just the way I like.

The treatment concluded with a warm ginger tea and I was pleasantly relaxed and satisfied.

The prices at Cheeva are quite reasonable, this one hour treatment is usually 900 THB (around $30 USD). However, currently they have a special 20% off all treatments. Call ahead to confirm this in the future. I thoroughly enjoyed my experience, I received a good massage at a good price.

The Cheeva is convenient to the center of town, has good prices, and good service. I recommend it.
